Veteran South African speedster Dale Steyn is eyeing a comeback to the international cricket. The pace bowler is hoping to be fit in time for the first international assignment of South Africa this season. Recently, Cricket South Africa announced the fixtures for the 2018-19 international season of the Proteas team. The Proteas are set to play a plethora of international cricket in the upcoming season.
With a long season coming up, Dale Steyn is hoping to regain full fitness and take the field again. The 34-year old cricketer has been in and out of the national side in the recent times due to his injury. When India toured South Africa earlier this year, all eyes were on Steyn who was making a comeback after a long injury layoff. He looked good in his first outing in the first Test at the Newlands.
Unfortunately, he ended up injuring his heel again in the very same Test match. He was subsequently ruled out of the season. The extent of the injury proved to be a little too much and that has kept him out of action ever since then. Now, Dale Steyn is set to join the County side Hampshire for the summer.
In his recent interview to the County team, he remarked that the ball is coming out pretty well and he will be fit enough to take the field soon, indicating his plans of returning for the upcoming international series. South Africa will kick start their international season against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka. They will play 2 Tests, 5 ODIs, and a one-off T20I on the tour. Meanwhile, another South African pacer is also eyeing his return with the same series.
“The ball is coming out sweetly. I needed to get back on the park and play a bit of cricket. South Africa tour Sri Lanka in July so I felt that June was a great time to come and play some cricket,” Dale Steyn quoted.
