Lucknow Super Giants would like to move a step closer to a spot in the IPL 2022 playoffs as they take on Delhi Capitals in their next assignment at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday (May 1). Both teams are coming off victories and would like to add two more points to their tally. With six wins in nine games, KL Rahul’s LSG are just a couple of wins away from securing a place in the next stage.

On the other hand, DC have blown hot and cold this season, winning four of their eight games. Hence, stakes are pretty high in this game. It also must be noted that these two teams met earlier in the season and the Super Giants walked away with a comfortable six-wicket triumph. While LSG would be determined to replicate their heroics, the Capitals would fight to settle the scores.

As far as on-paper strength and combination are concerned, LSG seems have to have an upper hand with a plethora of quality all-rounders in the ranks. In fact, the likes of Marcus Stoinis and Deepak Hooda haven’t been needed to bowl in recent games as others have done well. Skipper KL Rahul has led the team from the front and already has two centuries under his belt.

His opening partner Quinton de Kock, Deepak Hooda, and Ayush Badoni have also been among runs. As far as bowlers are concerned, spinners Ravi Bishnoi and Krunal Pandya have been brilliant in the middle overs. Among pacers, Jason Holder, Avesh Khan, and Dushmantha Chameera have been the stand-out performers.

Speaking of DC, David Warner has fired in almost all games while his opening partner Prithvi Shaw has also been fairly consistent. While skipper Rishabh Pant has blown hot and cold, the likes of Rovman Powell, Axar Patel, and Shardul Thakur have been successful in providing the side the late impetus.

Kuldeep Yadav has been a wicket-taking machine for DC this season, having already scalped 17 wickets in eight outings. Besides him, Khaleel Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman have also done exceedingly well. As both sides look balanced right now, some exciting action is on the cards.

Pitch and conditions

As this is an afternoon game, the dew isn’t likely to play any part. The temperature will be on the higher side and teams can consider batting first. The Wankhede pitch has been conducive for batters with short boundaries but also provides even bounce. Spinners can also come in action in the middle overs.
