The iconic Eden Gardens stadium at Kolkata is all set to get into the history books. The stadium will become the first Indian stadium to have stands named after the war heroes. As per the quotes in Xtratime.in, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) President, Mr. Sourav Ganguly, has confirmed the same. The stands will be renamed after the India and England final ODI.

For the India v England ODI, the stands will bear the names of historical people in cricket field from CAB. Ganguly will also have a stand in his name for the India-England ODI. The next matches to be played at the venue thereafter will have the names of the war heroes on the four stands at the Eden Gardens.

Speaking about the same, he mentioned, “We will have four stands named after Late Jagmohan Dalmiya, B.N.Dutt, Pankaj Roy and one on my name. On the next match four other stands will be named after J.C.Mukherjee, N.Ghosh and two war heroes. The army hasn’t finalized the names of the war heroes but it will come very soon.”

When asked about how it feels to have a stand under his name at the Eden Gardens, Ganguly said that it is an honor for him to see that. He is pleased with the move and cited late Jagmohan Dalmiya to be the key planner behind this gesture by the CAB.

“On 2009 Jagmohan Dalmiya took the initiative but the army didn’t give any permission. We are thankful to the Ministry of defense to have allowed us to do so. I also thank Biswaroom Dey (Lodha ousted Treasurer) who suggested my name to have a stand. I am happy too that a stand will be there at Eden gardens after my name,” said Sourav Ganguly.

The CAB has also started an initiative wherein they are giving stipends to young cricketers who do not hold a job. A stipend amount of 35000 INR will be given to 10 successful cricketers from the state until they get a job. The first player to get the stipend was Amit Kulia. “With Amit Kuila we have started the initiative today, in all there will be 10 cricketers who will be provided with this stipend till they get a job,” mentioned Ganguly.

Amit Kulia, the beneficiary was very happy to have received the stipend too. He quoted, “I am overwhelmed with what Dada is doing for me, I am grateful to Dada. My Father always said don’t give up keep trying, I have just followed that and trying hard to do better.”
