The ICC Champions trophy is one of the most widely viewed sports tournaments in the world. And this year, since it will be hosted by a cricket-crazy nation, the stadiums are expected to be filled to capacity. To English fans surprise, more spectators can watch the world’s finest cricketers play at Edgbaston Stadium after Warwickshire County Cricket Club confirmed the installation of a temporary stand for increasing capacity for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2017 in June.

Edgbaston will host five of the greatest clashes in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, and that includes Australia v New Zealand, Pakistan v South Africa, India v Pakistan, England v Australia and a semi-final. On Wednesday, 5 April, more than 21,000 tickets combined for these games will be released on general sale.

Gareth Roberts, Commercial Director at Edgbaston, said, “We successfully boosted the capacity of Edgbaston by more than 800 seats by using a temporary stand at the Investec Ashes Test match and NatWest T20 Blast Finals Day in 2015. With such high demand for the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, we were keen to secure its return and give even more people the chance to see one of the greatest international cricket tournaments in Birmingham.”

“Major redevelopment projects at Edgbaston and in the city centre have helped the stadium and Birmingham be great hosts for cricket’s marquee fixtures. We’re very excited to host the ICC Champions Trophy again in 2017 and look forward to welcoming fans from around the world to this great city in June.”

Outside of London, Edgbaston is the biggest cricket venue in the United Kingdom and has been one of the three ICC Champions Trophy venues on previous occasions as well.

Hosts England take on the Asian side Bangladesh in the tournament opener at Kennington Oval, London on June 1.
