The England Cricket Board (ECB) recently announced their 14-man squad for their ODI series versus India. The fixtures start from July 12 at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham, the very venue where the highest of 481 by the hosts was racked versus Australia a few days ago. The iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground and Headingley will host the remaining matches on July 14 and 17 respectively.

The Brits have made a couple of changes from their previous squad. Sam Billings and Sam Curran, who didn’t get many opportunities in the series against the Aussies, were sidelined. Ben Stokes, who was suffering from a hamstring injury, found his place back into the squad. Stokes will be donning the national colors since the Poms’ tour of New Zealand earlier this year.

No Chris Woakes

Eoin Morgan is the leader of the pack and he will want to carry forward his team’s rich vein of form in the 50-over format. Stokes’ inclusion will also mean that England’s batting will be further strengthened. The likes of Alex Hales, Johnny Bairstow, and Jason Roy have turned out to be indispensable elements of their top order. Jos Buttler’s recent form also means that their batting lineup looks solid than ever.

All-rounder Chris Woakes, who tweaked his right quad earlier this month, hasn’t recovered yet and Jake Ball, who replaced him in the erstwhile series, has been retained. The spin duo of Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali, also the joint leading wicket-taker against Tim Paine and Co, will be key to their team’s chances. Moeen’s prowess with the willow will also be important. Joe Root’s experience also needs to come to the fore.

Here is the squad

Eoin Morgan (C), Moeen Ali, Jonathan Bairstow, Jake Ball, Jos Buttler, Tom Curran, Alex Hales, Liam Plunkett, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, David Willey, Mark Wood
