England vs India: Azhar Ali thinks Team India is favorite to win the Test series

While India’s tour of England has already begun in an emphatic fashion, the Test series promises to be a relishing challenge. While Team India is ranked No.1 in the ICC rankings, England holds the fifth position. The previous two tours haven’t been the best for the Men in Blue. While the visitors were whitewashed in 2011, the 2014 tour saw England coming back from 0-1 to win the series 3-1.

Pakistani cricketer Azhar Ali feels that India are favourites to win the upcoming Test series. The 33-year-old didn’t have a great tour to Ireland and England recently. While he did score a half century at Lord’s, he failed to make any difference in the remainder of the games. The right hander also praised Indian skipper Virat Kohli for his unbelievable consistency.

Indian batsmen will prosper

Since the current climate in England is warm, Azhar suggested that India may get acclimatised to the conditions better. Also the fact that they’re the No.1 team at the moment, it shouldn’t be a big challenge. He further asserted that while the English bowling has always come good at home, the batsmen will take them to the cleaners in batting friendly conditions.

“The prevailing warm weather conditions in England at the moment seem to favour an India victory in the Test series in my view. They are, after all, ranked as the number one Test side in the world and the only thing England have in their favour is the fact that they are playing on their home grounds. They may have a good bowling attack for home conditions but in good batting conditions, the Indian batsmen will prosper and can easily put their team in a winning position when the series starts,” he told PakPassion.

Kohli’s batting has been gaining accolades throughout the globe. Azhar didn’t differ at all as he lauded the 29-year-old’s determination to achieve success. Further, he was all praise for the fitness standards set by him and termed him incredible.

“I believe the most important ingredient of Virat Kohli’s success is his determination to succeed. His composure in any situation is simply amazing. The level of professionalism that he shows in the game is comfortably the best in the game. His attention to fitness is exemplary and how he has steadily improved game year on year is just incredible,” he stated.
