The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the replacement of Jasprit Bumrah for the three-match ODI series. He had injured his finger during the first T20I against Ireland and since then Team India was fretting over his injury. The fast bowler is already ruled out of the T20I series and will not be part of the 50-overs format as well.

Bumrah is also doubtful for the Test matches which will begin on August 1 as he is recovering from the finger injury. He underwent the surgery in Leeds during his stay in England and has now returned home which is a severe blow to India who generally bank on him to bowl at the death.

Who is the replacement?

According to ABP News, Shardul Thakur has been named as his replacement for the upcoming ODI series who played for the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The visitors needed a proper death bowler it seems to overcome the absence of Bumrah in the line-up and Thakur has impressed recently with his variations.

He was recently the part of India A side in the tri-series also involving England Lions and Windies A which the Men in Blue won. Shardul was the second highest wicket-taker for India A in the series as he went on to pick 8 wickets in 4 matches during the tri-series. He conceded the runs at an economy of 5.02 which proves he was successful in keeping a lid on the run-scoring.

Even in the IPL, the 26-year-old was impressive for his franchise CSK with 16 wickets in 13 matches. He was expensive at times but kept on picking the wickets and was key in them winning the title this year. Now it remains to be seen if he will be able to replicate the similar performances in the ODI series which will begin on August 12.
