After dominating Ireland in the 3-match T20I series, the Windies Women succumbed to a 208-run defeat against England Women in the first game of the 3-match ODI series. Every loss in the series will affect the Caribbean team big time as they have won as few as five matches in the ICC Women’s ODI championship and are placed only ahead of Sri Lanka. The series defeat to Pakistan in UAE earlier this year too played a key role in their misery.

They got outplayed by the English team from the first ball itself. Amy Jones began the series in style by hitting the first ball of the game for a six. She scored a 99-ball 91 while her skipper Heather Knight top scored with 94 as the hosts finished on 318/9 in their 50 overs. Katherine Brunt’s opening spell of 5-2-6-2 followed by the 3-wicket hauls by the spinners Sophie Ecclestone and Laura Marsh ran through the Windies line-up who were bowled out for only 110.

Team News:

(Will be added when there is an update.)

Power Picks:

Captain Heather Knight hasn’t been bowling much in the recent times but with the bat, she has been on a different level. Knight’s 94 in the 1st ODI was her 4th fifty in previous 11 ODI innings. In those 11 innings, she scored 440 runs at an average of 62.85. In this span, she has bowled only 26 overs and took just a wicket. She is one player no one should miss out especially if England bats first.

Captain and Vice-Captain Selection:

The last match stars Heather Knight, Amy Jones and Hayley Matthews would always be among the first preferred options for multipliers. Alongside these three Stafanie Taylor and Natalie Sciver could be stand out with both bat and ball.

Other Captain/Vice-captain options – Katherine Brunt, Afy Fletcher, Any Shrubsole, Chinelle Henry, Sarah Taylor.

Expert Advice:

Sarah Taylor is currently finding her feet in International cricket after taking a break last year. She had a miserable tour of India and picking her will be a risky move but has made a resounding comeback every time in such situations. Danielle Wyatt’s importance will come in scenarios of batting for last 20-25 overs and not when batting after 40 overs like in the previous match.

Probable Winners:

England Women are expected to clinch the ODI series with yet another big victory.
