South African captain Faf du Plessis had a wise advice for the likely new coach of the Proteas Ottis Gibson. He told Gibson not to make wholesale changes to the side and disturb the composition. Gibson has been the front runner for the head coach’s role, but nothing has been signed on the dotted papers. But Faf has sneaked out a few details.
Word of caution
He also said that he came to know about few names that may assist the head coach in his new role, but didn’t disclose the candidates’ names. He also passed a silent warning under the sheets to the new coach by saying that the concerned person needs to think twice before replacing the likes of Neil Mckenzie(batting coach), Charl Langeveldt (bowling coach) and Claude Henderson (spin bowling coach).
Ball in the Board’s court
“As far as we know, it’s been told to us that the decision has been made by the coaching panel,” the skipper confirmed as quoted by Cricbuzz. “They’ve chosen Ottis Gibson as their recommendation and now that goes to the board and the board decides whether they want to use that recommendation or not.”
“In an ideal situation, you’d like to make as little change as possible so it’s not wholesale changes,” said Du Plessis. “A whole new coaching staff would come in and it would take a while to get to know everyone.”
“If there was a suggestion I could make is to for whoever to come in, if it was Ottis, to come in and see for himself what the team requires. If he decides that there need to be changes, then he decides that over a period of time. Our technical coaches, I think, have been doing a very good job.”
South Africa had a torrid time in England recently. They lost the ODI series 2-1 before crashing out of the Champions Trophy unceremoniously and then losing both the T20I and Test series.
