Indian commentator Sanjay Manjrekar is not at all impressed about the kind of all-rounders India have at the moment and shared his opinion about the new entrants in the squad through a couple of tweets.
India has been long searching for an all-rounder and the dearth of a quality all-rounder is hurting the team very much. Most recently, Gurkeerat Singh and Rishi Dhawan were looked as the possible solution for the all rounder’s place and were tried out by the management for the ongoing tour of Australia.
However, both individuals don’t seem to have taken up the responsibility properly and have failed to impress anyone in the recently concluded series which India lost 4-1. Both Gurkeerat Mann and Rishi Dhawan was average with the bat and could not do anything significant with the ball either.
Manjrekar reacted to the way Gurkeerat bowled in the 5th ODI, when he was bowled for 2 overs in which he conceded 17 runs, Manjrekar opined that his quality of bowling was not much better than the specialist batsmen in India’s ranks, like Rohit Sharma and Suresh Raina.
Manjrekar was also dissatisfied with the all-rounders’ batting efforts in the 4th ODI as well. He stated that Dhawan and Gurkeerat were too impatient in their shot selection and unnecessarily hurried even though the target was achievable quite easily. Both the all-rounder’ got three matches to play in the series. Rishi Dhawan could only make 12 runs and pick a single wicket while Gurkeerat managed only 12 runs and could claim any wicket in the series.
Gurkeerat & Rishi Dhawan need to be told early in their career that when its 6 runs per over, you can get it without trying to slog sixes.
