Fielding is one of the most important aspects of cricket. Players spend a great deal of time honing their fielding skills. Runs saved on the field are equivalent to runs scored in a cliched remark that we often come across. It is these runs that are saved on the field that counts when a game goes down to the wire.

Furthermore, it is much more important not to leak any runs on the field in high-scoring games. But, Kieron Pollard seemed to have forgotten these basic rules in the opening game of the Global T20 Canada. Pollard represents the Toronto Nationals in the league and is an important member on the side.

Absolutely reckless fielding from Kieron Pollard

In the game against Vancouver Knights, Toronto Nationals opted to bowl first. The Knights got off to an absolute flyer and were scoring runs at a brisk pace. The incident took place in the 19th over of the innings when Andre Russell was batting alongside Babr Hayat in the middle. The Vancouver Knights already posted 206 runs on the board by the time this incident took place and were eyeing a bigger total.

The target being over 200, it wasn’t going to be an easy chase for the Toronto Nationals. In a situation such as that one, every run had to be saved. But on the third ball of the over, Babar Hayat mistimed a pull shot wide of long-on where Kieron Pollard was fielding. Pollard was off the blocks quickly, cover the ground and reached the ball.

Being the brilliant fielder that he is, the batsmen in the middle weren’t even thinking of stealing a second run against his throw. However, at this point in time, Pollard tried to be over smart. He was absolutely reckless about bending down and picking the ball up. He took his own sweet time to do this and in the process, he conceded an additional run. Vancouver Knights scored 227 runs in the first innings. However, Winnipeg Hawks chased the total down with four balls to spare. Pollard scored 4 0ff 6 balls in this game.

Also, this isn’t the first time that Pollard was involved in such an act. He has earlier tried to do somewhat a similar thing when MS Dhoni was batting in the middle. On that occasion as well, MS Dhoni easily stole the second run.
