India’s T20I captain Harmanpreet Kaur slammed 74 off 44 balls in the ongoing Kia Super League (KSL) on Tuesday, August 14. Playing for Lancashire Thunder, Kaur played a tremendous knock against Yorkshire Diamonds and her innings included six sixes and four fours. She was so brutally smashing the ball that it shattered the window of a van parked outside the ground.
Those who observed it took a photo of the shattered glasses of the vehicle and posted it on social media. That was not all. The 29-year-old batswoman hit another shot which narrowly missed a reporter from BBC who was sitting with his back towards the ground. The reporter was stunned to see the ball zoom past him with that kind of speed.
Riding on Kaur’s half-century, Thunder scored 154 for 9 wickets in their 20 overs. The Diamonds did their best while chasing the target but fell short by 9 runs to end up at 145. This was the Indian’s maiden half-century of the tournament after a string of four single-digit scores in her first five outings.

Kaur made a relatively slow start, scoring 12 from her first 14 balls, but then accelerated briskly. The all-rounder plundered 62 runs from the next 30 deliveries to propel the Thunder to a competitive score after the opposition captain won the toss and sent them in to bat first. Kaur has played 83 T20Is for India, scoring 1,616 runs with five fifties.
The Punjab cricketer is joined by Smriti Mandhana, another talented Indian batswoman in the competition – she is representing the Western Storm. They are not playing in the ongoing T20 Challenger series in Bengaluru. The tournament serves as a criterion for the selection of players for the Indian squad for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka.
Kaur and Mandhana are set to return to India soon. The left-hander’s team has already qualified for the semi-final but they will miss the dynamic opener in case the team does qualify for the final.
