Former Afghani skipper Asghar Afghan has made a hilarious revelation about his former teammate Hazratullah Zazai, stating that the latter eats a lot.  Notably, Afghanistan annihilated Sri Lanka in the opening fixture of the Asia Cup on Saturday, 27th August, to send an ominous warning to the rest of the sides in the competition. Mohammad Nabi’s side outclassed the five-time champions in all aspects of the game and were relentless from the onset.

Analysing the game on on ‘BatBricks7 Presents Run Ki Runneeti show’ on CricTracker, Afghan answered a fan’s question. The fan question read, “Ye Zazai khata kya hai (What does Zazai eat?),” to which Afghan replied, “Vo bahut zyada khaate hain, khuraak ka bahut shaukeen hain (He eats a lot, loves eating).”

Speaking of the match, Sri Lanka entered the game as the favorites but their chances of winning the game took a significant hit in the opening two overs, losing their top three batters for just five runs on the board. Fazalhaq Farooqi caught the eye with his skillful swing bowling at the top, while the spin trio of Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan never gave any respite to their opponents since those early blows, restricting Sri Lanka to a lowly 105.

Afghanistan never looked in doubt about chasing the mediocre total and raced home with almost ten overs to spare, thanks to the belligerent stand between openers Zazai and Rahmanullah Gurbaz. Meanwhile, Afghanistan’s triumph in the curtain-raiser clash of this year’s tournament threw caution to their former captain’s words before the clash, who had backed them to lift the trophy.

Afghan had stated that the players are quite familiar with the format and are comfortable playing at the venue. Although they had lost their last series against Ireland, there are in good form to go all the way in the Asia Cup.

“I still believe that Afghanistan can win the Asia Cup, and I would favor them because our boys are very much experienced in the T20 format, especially when they play in Dubai. The current form of the team and the combination (of players) that they’re deploying are good,” Afghan had told CricTracker.
