The Dhaka Dynamites slumped to their sixth defeat in the last seven games and this time around, Shakib Al Hasan’s team lost to Comilla Victorians by one run at the Sher-E-Bangla National Stadium. The defeat also means that their next match against Khulna Titans on Friday is a must-win for them. Meanwhile, Comilla, led by Imrul Kayes, moved to the top of the table in this edition’s Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

Rubel wrecks havoc

The Dynamites won the toss and elected to field first and restricted the Victorians to 127. Tamim Iqbal and Evin Lewis got their team off to a decent start with a stand of 38 runs from five overs. Sunil Narine castled Lewis for eight to strike first blood. Anamul Haque got a golden duck. Shuvagata Hom inflicted the body blow as he nipped out the left-handed Tamim, who scored 38 with four fours and two sixes.

The Victorians slumped to 87 for eight in the 16th over. Shakib Al Hasan also picked up a couple of wickets. Shahid Afridi flung the bat to score 18 runs with one boundary, but even he couldn’t carry. In the death overs, Mahedi Hasan and Wahab Riaz threw their willows to rack up 20 and 16 runs respectively. For the Dynamites’, Rubel Hossain was the most successful with four crucial wickets.

Victorians prevail in the cliffhanger

The Dynamites didn’t make the best of starts to the run-chase and lost four wickets for 29 runs. All of Upul Tharanga, Rony Talukdar and Shakib got out for single figures. Sunil Narine batted in the middle order and he, along with Kieron Pollard got the innings back on the track with a partnership of 42 runs. Shahid Afridi broke the ominous-looking partnership, dismissing Narine, who scored 22 with two fours.

After a few overs, Mohammad Saifuddin got rid of Pollard. Andre Russell smacked two sixes off Shahid Afridi to bring the game back in Dhaka’s favour. He was lucky to survive in the penultimate over as Wahab Riaz dismissed him off a no-ball. With Dhaka needing 13 runs off the last over, Russell muscled a six and a four off Saifuddin, but couldn’t save his team from the sixth defeat in this edition’s BPL.

Here is how Twitter hailed the Dynamites
