Since his injury against New Zealand in the ODI series in the fall of 2016, Rohit Sharma has been on the receiving end of a prolonged comeback call, something that he has not stuck to since the injury. With the English coming and going and the Bangladeshis expected in a week, it would seem clear that Rohit’s rehabilitation would indeed coincide with that ordeal. Speaking to the media, Rohit added that he is certainly targeting the Australia series for a comeback in the near future.

“I am trying to make a comeback in the Australia series. That is the series I am eyeing. I am at the NCA (National Cricket Academy) right now and everybody is trying to help me out,” Rohit said on the sidelines of an event here.

He then went on to add that the approach against a different opposition would be no different from the plans they had against England or perhaps even New Zealand. “The approach will be no different against Australia, as it was against England. We have been doing well in all formats and we are confident of continuing that in the series against Australia,” Rahul told PTI.

Earlier, Virat Kohli, the incumbent Indian skipper has stated that he was only filling in the opening slot in place of the injured Rohit Sharma.

“If Rohit was on the side, there is no question he would be opening with Rahul. I have no urge to open, I play at three, I can play anywhere according to what the management thinks. You can’t ask someone to open if he has not done it in the past. It would be unfair to him,” Kohli had said recently.
