The Mumbai Indians romped to their third title win in the history of the Indian Premier League. They beat their Maharashtra neighbors Rising Pune Supergiant in the finals of the 2017 edition of the tournament to lift the silverware. The highlight of their successful campaign this season was the way all players chipped in with crucial contributions this season. Parthiv Patel was one such key member of their lineup.
Batting alongside Jos Buttler or Lendl Simmons in the opening slot, Parthiv Patel amassed runs close to 400 this season and was instrumental in giving flying starts to the team. Patel looked absolutely threatening in the powerplays as he took charge of doing the counter attack on the opposition. With his good run of form, it was only expected to see the talks about his return to the national setup come in the media again.
But if Parthiv Patel is to be believed, he does not think about the selections anymore. As per the recent quotes in the Times of India, Parthiv is now keen on enjoying the sport rather than thinking too much about the selections and other aspects of the game. He is pleased with the way he made his Test comeback this year and also won the Ranji Trophy title with team Gujarat earlier this season.
“Honestly, I don’t worry about selection anymore. I have been old enough and been around for years. I don’t play cricket to get selected. I am enjoying and have been at the peak of my game, had a great year, winning Ranji Trophy (for Gujarat), making a Test comeback (for India) and winning IPL and playing well in IPL. If I keep doing it, rest of the things will follow,” quoted Parthiv Patel.
No more selection worries
He further quipped that he is not even bothered about who gets picked in the team or who gets axed. He believes that his job is to play and he has been doing that with ease. “I don’t worry about who has been picked (or not), that is not part of my job,” conceded Patel.
