The Motera Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad is all set to start hosting games once again. The stadium will be the largest cricket stadium in the world once it is opened. As of now, Australia’s Melbourne Cricket Stadium holds the recognition for being the largest cricket stadium. The new facility has a capacity of 1,10,000 people and will be inaugurated by US President Donald Trump on February 24.

Unsurprisingly, there is excitement all around regarding the stadium. And not only the fans, but the International Cricket Council (ICC) also looks excited over the same. Even before the official unveiling, the governing body of the game posted a beautiful picture of the stadium on Instagram.

“The latest picture of the almost-ready Motera Cricket Stadium, which is expected to boast a seating capacity of 110,000! Who fancies attending a cricket game here?,” wrote ICC along with posting the picture of the stadium which looked stunning.

And as soon as the ICC posted the picture, the Indian fans could not help but express their delight over the same. The jubilant fans were in awe of the newly reconstructed stadium as they hailed it while beaming with pride. Some even used the opportunity to take a dig at arch-rivals Pakistan.

Motera Cricket Stadium to host day-night Test

India’s second day-night Test at home is set to be played at the Motera Cricket Stadium next year when England visit the country for a five-match series. BCCI president Sourav Ganguly recently confirmed that India would play a day-night Test against Australia and England each. The world number one Test side will visit Australia towards the end of the year for a four-match Test series before welcoming England in January.

“Day-night Test will happen and we will make a public announcement — the second Test against England next year. Yes, against Australia also,” Ganguly told reporters on Sunday after the Apex Council meeting in Delhi.

The Motera Cricket Stadium was also set to host a game between Asia XI and World XI before the plan was canceled. Speculations are rife that the newly-built stadium might host the final of this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL).
