ICC to take over ACC’s regional developmental activities: The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and International Cricket Council (ICC) have decided that the regional development activities implemented by the ACC will be taken over by the ICC from July 1, 2015. In a press release last night, the ICC formally announced its plan for the takeover of the ACC. In spite of this decision, the Asia Cup will still be conducted by the Asian Cricket Council. Some qualification processes that could allow Associate and Affiliate teams to play in the tournament are also being reviewed.

On ICC’s official Press Release, ICC’s Chief Executive Mr. David Richardson said, The ACC’s development work has been fundamental to the growth and improvement of many Associate and Affiliate Members in Asia, particularly countries like Afghanistan, UAE and Nepal. We therefore look forward to building on this success in order for cricket to become even stronger across the region. It has become clear that world cricket is becoming more unified, and with that in mind, it was felt best to integrate the development work of the ACC with the ICC’s Development Programme. We are very proud of what our development team has achieved over many years, and because of this, we believe cricket across Asia has never been in a better position. The ACC Executive Board also expresses its sincere thanks to the CEO, Ashraful Haq, and his staff for all their contributions, said ACC Vice President John Cribbin. ACC was set up in 1983 and today, it has 25 members as a part of it including the Test-playing countries of Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
