Jason Roy, one of England’s most promising young players has not been in fine form with the willow this season in the Indian Premier League with the Gujarat Lions and unfortunately the team is not performing that well in the league.

Gujarat is struggling in the 7th position in the table with just two wins from their first 7 games. Roy who was preferred ahead of the other foreigners in the initial few matches has got off to good starts but could not capitalize on the same. He started the campaign as an opener but later saw himself batting in the lower middle order too due to his inconsistency at the top.

Roy has admitted that he might not return for the remainder of the ongoing IPL season as he is all set travel for an ODI series against Ireland in the first week of May, which will rule him out of Gujarat Lions’ clashes against Delhi Daredevils (4th May) and Kings XI Punjab (7th May).

“I’m discussing with Andrew Strauss, whether to come back out here to the IPL or to get cracking with Surrey in the Royal London,” said Roy. “I’m due to come back for the Ireland game and then after that, I could have three games for Surrey before the South Africa series so that would be great preparation I think,” Roy added.

At the same time, the batter blamed the lack of opportunities in the Gujarat lions and stated that he is in fine form and has been training hard.

“I’m in good form, but there is not much I can do about selection. I’m training as hard as I can and I’m taking the positives out it by getting ready for the English season.”

He also said that he is eagerly looking forward to the ICC Champions trophy which is scheduled to be played in England this year. According to the cricketer, he is taking the positives out of every situation as he looks to perform for his country in the Champions Trophy.

“I’m definitely making the most of it and doing things that will benefit me not just now but over the next couple of months with the Champions Trophy coming up.”
