Pakistan cricket board (PCB) has confirmed that the inaugural edition of the Pakistan Junior League will take place from October 1 to October 15 this year and the Gadaffi Stadium in Lahore is set to host all the games. The tournament will feature six city-based franchise teams and 19 matches will take place overall which will include local U-19 players teaming with foreign players.

It has been noted that the budding players will be picked up through a draft system while every team will have the luxury of roping in one iconic player who will serve as the team’s coach or mentor. Potential sponsors, partners and entrepreneurs to the Request for Expressions of Interest played an important part in PCB taking the necessary steps for the tournament to be conducted and the concept comes up from the recently-launched PCB Pathway Cricket Programme which has been assisting the teenage cricketer.

Delighted, encouraged and motivated by the response we have received: Ramiz Raja

PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja was quite delighted by the response to the tournament from the sponsor end and felt quite confident that the ‘appetite for cricket’ hasn’t come down among the youngsters. He added that a strong commercial market will enhance the forthcoming projects for the PCB and felt that it was important to strengthen their financial and commercial department. As per reports, PCB will now initiate a bidding process after Eid Al-Fitr for live-streaming rights for the tournament as well.

“I am delighted, encouraged and motivated by the response we have received as the Pakistan Junior League’s Request for Expressions of Interest. This feedback has strengthened my belief and confidence that we have a huge appetite for cricket and a strong commercial market, which is keen, eager and happy to partner with the PCB on its projects of introducing new properties so that we can strengthen ourselves financially and commercially, and the return on investments are shared with all cricketers,” Ramiz Raja was quoted as saying by PCB.com.
