Rashid Khan is in the middle of a purple patch and is currently ranked the number one T20I bowler. At a tender age of 19, he already has scaled several heights and is currently deemed to be one of the most proficient spinners doing rounds in world cricket. The teenager recently played in Afghanistan’s series versus Bangladesh in Dehradun and was crowned as the Player of the Series.

He picked up 8 wickets in 3 matches and ripped apart the visitors at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium. Prior to that, he emerged as the second-highest wicket-taker in the Indian Premier League (IPL) playing for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) with 20 wickets in 16 matches. Recently, Tom Moody, who ended his stint as SRH’s head coach, heaped praises on Rashid.

“He will still create headaches”- Moody on Rashid

“No one reads him. I am yet to see someone successfully read whether he is bowling the wrong ‘un, the leg-spin or the top-spin. So, his deception is still a big weapon. Also, the speed at which he bowls and the speed at which the ball comes off the wicket is a great asset. If you combine those two things together, it is a pretty formidable task for any batsman to make the necessary changes,” he said to Sportstar.

Rashid is slated to play in Afghanistan’s maiden Test match versus India at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. The team received Test status last year and has displayed some riveting cricket. Rashid’s role has been pivotal and they are expected to bank on his prowess in their foray into the game’s longest format. Moody also feels that he can bowl well irrespective of the nature of the pitch.

“Rashid will welcome the opportunity to bowl in Bengaluru and whether the ball turns or not, he will still create enough headaches for the batsmen over the five days. It is an advantage that you know about your surroundings. He has bowled in Bengaluru earlier and has bowled plenty of times around the country,” the former Australian cricketer added.
