IND vs AFG: Visitors arrival date in Bengaluru announced

The last one year has been joyous for the Afghanistan cricket team. Last year they were crowned as a Full Member team and were also presented with the Test status. Earlier this year, they became one of the teams to qualify for the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup in England and Wales. To multiply, their delight, they will now play their maiden Test versus India in Bangalore from June 14.

The team recently locked horns with Bangladesh at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Dehradun and turned out to be a brute force. The series turned out to be one-sided as the hosts pummeled Shakib Al Hasan’s men by a margin of 3-0. The likes of Rashid Khan and others brought forth their A-game and gave absolutely nothing away for their opponents to pounce on.

Afghanistan’s foray among big boys

They will now be playing in Bengaluru where the conditions are expected to be different from Dehradun. The team, captained by Asghar Stanikzai, is scheduled to arrive in the city today (Saturday) to cross sword with India as per reports in Sportstar. Their team is stacked with spinners and Phil Simmons talked about zeroing on their team combination ahead of the historic Test match.

“We also have four seamers in the team. We are just preparing and we will decide (on the plan) when we reach Bengaluru. Once we see how they have prepared the wicket, we will decide whether to play four spinners or not,” Phil Simmons, the head coach of the team, mentioned.

Three Afghan players in Rashid, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Mohammad Nabi recently plied their trade in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and all three presented some scintillating display of cricket. India are a much-experienced opponent and overhauling them won’t be a cakewalk by any stretch of the imagination. However, bearing in mind the visitor’s class, they can’t be ruled out either.
