India A skipper Manish Pandey attracted a disciplinary action after he breached the ICC Code of Conduct during his side’s 86-run win over the National Performance Squad in Townsville. Pandey was found to have breached Article 2.1.5, which relates to showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match and was consequently slapped with 25 per cent of his match fee.

The incident took place when Pandey was given out Leg before Wicket (LBW) for 31 during the visitors innings. The right-hander missed a delivery from NPS leg-spinner Mitchell Swepson and was struck on the pads. He was immediately given out. But, after getting dismissed, he gestured with his right hand towards Umpire Shawn Craig instead of leaving the crease. He remained at the crease for more than 10 seconds before starting his walk off the ground.

Pandey had admitted the Level 1 offence, but he challenged the proposed sanction of a fine equal to 30 percent of his match fee.

Pandey admitted the offence but challenged the proposed sanction of a fine equal to 30 percent of his match fee. After a hearing, the Match Referee Peter Marshall reduced the sanction to a fine of 25 percent, which Pandey accepted. Pandey has no history of such behavior and this was his first level 1 offence under the ICC’s Code of Conduct.
