India’s home domination continued as they pummelled Bangladesh and <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/twitter-reactions-india-comfortably-win-their-first-ever-day-night-test-to-whitewash-bangladesh/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><strong>won the series 2-0</strong></a>. Be it with the red ball in the first Test in Indore or the pink ball under lights at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, the Bangla Tigers were no match to the Virat Kohli-led Indian side. It was a very one-sided contest and the visitors hardly won a session in the entire series.

Both Test matches saw similar patterns. Bangladesh batted first and were bowled out for paltry scores before India racked up a big first-innings lead and eventually bowled the visitors out cheaply, winning by an innings. It was a series where the Indian fast bowlers stamped their authority and showed their dominance. The batsmen did their job but it was all about the Indian pace trio and them making Bangladesh batsmen dance to their tunes.

India recorded their seventh straight Test win (overall and all of them coming in 2019) and 12th successive Test series win at home. Moreover, they also finished the calendar year 2019 unbeaten. Meanwhile, Bangladesh lost all their five Tests in 2019.

Thus, with the Test series coming to an end, we look back at a combined XI:

It was less than a year ago that Mayank Agarwal made his Test debut on Boxing Day at the MCG. He hasn’t looked back since and has been piling on the runs. In his first few Tests, he was getting out after scoring fifties and wasn’t converting them. But it hasn’t been a problem in this home season.

Agarwal scored a couple of hundreds against South Africa, which included a double ton as well. In the first Test against Bangladesh, he continued his purple patch as he stroked another fine double hundred. After Bangladesh were shot out for 150, India had lost <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/rohit-sharma-tries-his-hands-at-bowling-in-the-nets-with-the-pink-ball/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><strong>Rohit Sharma</strong></a> early and thus, Agarwal took responsibility and batted long and big.

He was the lone centurion in that first game as he scored 243 and helped India take a huge first-innings lead. The Karnataka opener also looked good in his brief stay in the second game but was dismissed on 14. Due to that double ton, Agarwal finished the series as the leading run-getter.

Shadman Islam was one of the rare Bangladesh top-order batsmen who tried fighting it out against the relentless Indian pace attack. In fact, he was one of the only four Bangladesh players who faced more than 100 balls in the series. The left-hander may not have scored a lot of runs but looked compact and solid.

It was a series where Cheteshwar Pujara was hardly noticed. All the limelight was on the Indian pacers and the two centurions in the series. But Pujara had a decent series himself. After scoring a couple of fifties in the three Tests against South Africa, the Saurashtra lad backed it up with a couple more in as many innings against Bangladesh.

There is barely any XI that looks complete without Virat Kohli. The Indian skipper invariably makes it to almost every combined XI. However, much to the shock and disappointment of the Indore crowd, Kohli got a duck in the first game.

But he more than made up in the second game. Under testing conditions with the pink ball, Kohli strode out and registered yet another Test century. He walked the talk about the pink ball and showed everyone how to adjust and adapt in different conditions. The Indian captain scored a fine 136 which helped India get to 347 in reply to Bangladesh’s 106.

He became India’s first centurion in day-night Test cricket. It was also his 27<sup>th</sup> ton in Test cricket and 70<sup>th</sup> overall in international cricket, which is the third-most (only behind Ricky Ponting – 71 and Sachin Tendulkar – 100).

Ajinkya Rahane continued his good form in Test cricket. There were quite a few questions over his place in the side before the series against West Indies. However, he has smashed all the doubts to pieces and has been in fine form. The Indian vice-captain seems to be back to his fluent best and is hitting the ball well.

Like Pujara, Rahane scored back to back fifties as well in this series but couldn’t convert even one of those into a hundred. In the first game, he came in to bat after India lost a couple of quick wickets and he steadied the ship and scored 86. In the second game, he scored 53 as his partnership with <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/felt-like-an-ipl-game-on-walking-out-virat-kohli-on-playing-under-lights-at-the-eden-gardens/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><strong>Virat Kohli</strong></a> helped India extend the lead. Thus, with 137 runs in the series, Rahane finished as the third-highest run-getter.

There is absolutely no doubt that Mushfiqur Rahim loves batting against India. Irrespective of the format, the veteran always steps up when Bangladesh faces India. He averages more than 50 against India, which is the most for him against any team in Test cricket. He invariably scores runs against them. It was no different in this series as well.

Rahim was by far the best Bangladeshi batsman on show. Barring his duck in the first innings of the second Test, Rahim looked solid. He had answers to the red-hot and relentless Indian pace attack. He played them beautifully throughout the series.

The 32-year-old scored 181 runs at an average of 45.25 which included a couple of half-centuries. He was the second-highest run-getter of the series. But he also faced criticism for batting at No. 5 and no at No. 4.

It wasn’t a series for spinners at all. Ravichandran Ashwin picked up five wickets in the first Test and that was all that the Indian spinners managed in this series. Ravindra Jadeja went wicketless throughout the series. He bowled 17 wicketless overs across two innings in Indore and hardly bowled in the second Test in Kolkata.

However, it is due to his batting that he makes the XI. <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/how-about-trading-ravindra-jadeja-to-mumbai-indians-a-fan-tweets-csk-responds/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><strong>Ravindra Jadeja</strong></a>’s batting has bloomed in the recent past. He has been promoted to No. 6 and has been batting really well. He is consistently getting decent scores and has become a reliable option.

Jadeja stroked a fifty in the first Test of this series. He walked into bat at 309/4 and consolidated India’s position of strength. The Saurashtra all-rounder scored an unbeaten 60 off 76 balls which included six fours and two sixes. He failed under lights as he fell for just 12 in the second Test in Kolkata.

It was a series where the Indian fast bowlers tormented the Bangladesh batting line-up. Umesh Yadav continued his impressive run at home. He picked up 11 wickets from two Tests against South Africa and now, he took 12 against Bangladesh.

His tally of 12 wickets in the series was the joint-most. Yadav took the new ball and bowled with some pace and fire. He rattled the Bangladesh batsmen with pace and was even pretty consistent. In the first Test, the Vidarbha pacer took two wickets in each innings before making hay with the pink ball.

Yadav burst through twice in two innings in Kolkata as he picked up 3/29 and 5/53 in the two innings of the second Test. It was his third five-wicket haul in Test cricket and he finished the home season with 23 wickets.

<a href="https://www.crictracker.com/i-have-stopped-worrying-about-these-things-ishant-sharma-on-his-limited-overs-axing/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><strong>Ishant Sharma</strong></a> has often been touted as an unlucky bowler. He often tends to bowl well but has little reward to show. However, it was very different in this series. He finished as the joint leading wicket-taker in this series – 12 wickets.

Be it strike-rate (24.00), average (10.75) or economy (2.68), Ishant was best on all accounts in this Test series. The senior Indian paceman was bang on target with his lines and lengths. He found swing and seam which constantly troubled the Bangladesh batsmen.

While he picked up three wickets in the first Test, he dwelled with the pink ball in hand. The lanky pacer from Delhi picked up 5/22 to blow away Bangladesh in the first innings in Kolkata. This was his first fifer at home after 2007. In the second innings, it was his four-wicket burst that knocked over the Bangladesh top-order once again. Hence, it was a wonderful series for Ishant Sharma.

There was a lot of fire in <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/mohammed-shami-hunting-in-packs-with-hunters-umesh-yadav-and-ishant-sharma/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><strong>Mohammed Shami</strong></a> in this series. The Bengal pacer kept running in and bowling hostile spells. He may or may not have been rewarded but he built the pressure and also, sent a few shivers down the Bangladesh team’s spine. He bowled quick and also, struck a few batsmen on the helmet as well (which is never a great sight).

Shami did most of his damage in the first Test. The 29-year-old fast bowler picked up seven wickets across two innings (3/27 and 4/31) to set up India’s win in Indore. In the second game, he was adamant on using the short ball and may have overdone it a touch as well. He picked up just two wickets in the second game and finished the series with nine wickets.

He has been promoted to No. 6 and has been batting really well. He is consistently getting decent scores and has become a reliable option.</p>

<p>It was a series where the Indian fast bowlers tormented the Bangladesh batting line-up. Umesh Yadav continued his impressive run at home. He picked up 11 wickets from two Tests against South Africa and now, he took 12 against Bangladesh.</p>
<p>His tally of 12 wickets in the series was the joint-most. Yadav took the new ball and bowled with some pace and fire. He rattled the Bangladesh batsmen with pace and was even pretty consistent. In the first Test, the Vidarbha pacer took two wickets in each innings before making hay with the pink ball.</p>
<p>Yadav burst through twice in two innings in Kolkata as he picked up 3/29 and 5/53 in the two innings of the second Test. It was his third five-wicket haul in Test cricket and he finished the home season with 23 wickets.</p>

He bowled quick and also, struck a few batsmen on the helmet as well (which is never a great sight).</p>

<p>There were very few positives for Bangladesh from this Test series. One of them was Abu Jayed. The 26-year-old pacer was very impressive and finished the series as Bangladesh’s highest wicket-taker – six wickets.</p>
<p>In both innings that he bowled, Jayed showed great control and also, to an extent, troubled the Indian batsmen. Jayed may have been expensive but was Bangladesh’s best bowler as well. In the first game, he picked up the first four wickets before going for runs later on.</p>
<p>In the second, he was tight with his lines and lengths and also picked up a couple of wickets with the second new ball. Thus, he was one of the very few shining lights from Bangladesh’s campaign.</p>

<p>India’s home domination continued as they pummelled Bangladesh and <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/twitter-reactions-india-comfortably-win-their-first-ever-day-night-test-to-whitewash-bangladesh/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><strong>won the series 2-0</strong></a>. Be it with the red ball in the first Test in Indore or the pink ball under lights at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, the Bangla Tigers were no match to the Virat Kohli-led Indian side. It was a very one-sided contest and the visitors hardly won a session in the entire series.</p>
<p>Both Test matches saw similar patterns. Bangladesh batted first and were bowled out for paltry scores before India racked up a big first-innings lead and eventually bowled the visitors out cheaply, winning by an innings. It was a series where the Indian fast bowlers stamped their authority and showed their dominance. The batsmen did their job but it was all about the Indian pace trio and them making Bangladesh batsmen dance to their tunes.</p>
<p>India recorded their seventh straight Test win (overall and all of them coming in 2019) and 12th successive Test series win at home. Moreover, they also finished the calendar year 2019 unbeaten. Meanwhile, Bangladesh lost all their five Tests in 2019.</p>

<p>It was less than a year ago that Mayank Agarwal made his Test debut on Boxing Day at the MCG. He hasn’t looked back since and has been piling on the runs. In his first few Tests, he was getting out after scoring fifties and wasn’t converting them. But it hasn’t been a problem in this home season.</p>
<p>Agarwal scored a couple of hundreds against South Africa, which included a double ton as well. In the first Test against Bangladesh, he continued his purple patch as he stroked another fine double hundred. After Bangladesh were shot out for 150, India had lost <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/rohit-sharma-tries-his-hands-at-bowling-in-the-nets-with-the-pink-ball/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><strong>Rohit Sharma</strong></a> early and thus, Agarwal took responsibility and batted long and big.</p>
<p>He was the lone centurion in that first game as he scored 243 and helped India take a huge first-innings lead. The Karnataka opener also looked good in his brief stay in the second game but was dismissed on 14. Due to that double ton, Agarwal finished the series as the leading run-getter.</p>

<p>It wasn’t a series where all the openers excelled. Barring Mayank Agarwal, no other opener crossed the 30-run mark. Rohit Sharma struggled a bit as well. Every time, Bangladesh batted, the top order wickets fell like a procession. However, there was one Bangladesh opener who showed a decent fight.</p>
<p>Shadman Islam was one of the rare Bangladesh top-order batsmen who tried fighting it out against the relentless Indian pace attack. In fact, he was one of the only four Bangladesh players who faced more than 100 balls in the series. The left-hander may not have scored a lot of runs but looked compact and solid.</p>

<p>It was a series where Cheteshwar Pujara was hardly noticed. All the limelight was on the Indian pacers and the two centurions in the series. But Pujara had a decent series himself. After scoring a couple of fifties in the three Tests against South Africa, the Saurashtra lad backed it up with a couple more in as many innings against Bangladesh.</p>
<p>Pujara was in early both times he batted in this series. 14/1 and 26/1 were the stages when he came out to bat and he looked in good touch. He was timing the ball well and seemed to be scoring runs at a fair clip as well. In fact, in the first game, he even outscored Mayank Agarwal at one point.</p>
<p>The Indian No. 3 shared good stands with Agarwal in the first game and Virat Kohli in the second to put India in dominant positions. However, he couldn’t capitalize on the starts he got and make big tons. Pujara got scores of 54 and 55 in the two Tests.</p>

<p>There is barely any XI that looks complete without Virat Kohli. The Indian skipper invariably makes it to almost every combined XI. However, much to the shock and disappointment of the Indore crowd, Kohli got a duck in the first game.</p>
<p>But he more than made up in the second game. Under testing conditions with the pink ball, Kohli strode out and registered yet another Test century. He walked the talk about the pink ball and showed everyone how to adjust and adapt in different conditions. The Indian captain scored a fine 136 which helped India get to 347 in reply to Bangladesh’s 106.</p>
<p>He became India’s first centurion in day-night Test cricket. It was also his 27<sup>th</sup> ton in Test cricket and 70<sup>th</sup> overall in international cricket, which is the third-most (only behind Ricky Ponting – 71 and Sachin Tendulkar – 100).</p>

<h3>Ajinkya Rahane</h3>

<p>Ajinkya Rahane continued his good form in Test cricket. There were quite a few questions over his place in the side before the series against West Indies. However, he has smashed all the doubts to pieces and has been in fine form. The Indian vice-captain seems to be back to his fluent best and is hitting the ball well.</p>
<p>Like Pujara, Rahane scored back to back fifties as well in this series but couldn’t convert even one of those into a hundred. In the first game, he came in to bat after India lost a couple of quick wickets and he steadied the ship and scored 86. In the second game, he scored 53 as his partnership with <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/felt-like-an-ipl-game-on-walking-out-virat-kohli-on-playing-under-lights-at-the-eden-gardens/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><strong>Virat Kohli</strong></a> helped India extend the lead. Thus, with 137 runs in the series, Rahane finished as the third-highest run-getter.</p>

<p>There is absolutely no doubt that Mushfiqur Rahim loves batting against India. Irrespective of the format, the veteran always steps up when Bangladesh faces India. He averages more than 50 against India, which is the most for him against any team in Test cricket. He invariably scores runs against them. It was no different in this series as well.</p>
<p>Rahim was by far the best Bangladeshi batsman on show. Barring his duck in the first innings of the second Test, Rahim looked solid. He had answers to the red-hot and relentless Indian pace attack. He played them beautifully throughout the series.</p>
<p>The 32-year-old scored 181 runs at an average of 45.25 which included a couple of half-centuries. He was the second-highest run-getter of the series. But he also faced criticism for batting at No. 5 and no at No. 4.</p>
