On the occasion of the National Girl Child Day, the Indian cricketers took to their respective social media handles to bat for the cause of the girl child. In the modern age, one would expect the gender equality to be a norm. However, it is disheartening to know that even today, there persists gender inequality in the Indian society. The girl child is often considered to be inferior to the boy child.

There have been numerous cases where the parents have preferred the male child. There have been a few cases where couples visit temples to pray for a girl child. Even the female infanticide rate is quite high in the country. The safety of women needs no special mention either. The plight is pretty well known to many.

Amidst this backdrop, the Indian cricketers batted for gender equality and for the cause of the girl child on the National Girl Child Day. Veteran Indian cricketer Suresh Raina was recently blessed with a baby girl. He shared a cute video of his daughter Gracia. He is seen playing with Gracia in the video. He had a very lovely message to share as well.

“She is the exclamation mark in the happiest sentence that I could ever write. Daughters are angels,” Suresh Raina wrote.

Meanwhile, another veteran Indian cricketer, Harbhajan Singh, also shared a lovely message. He asked the fans to not cut the wings of a girl child. Harbhajan is a proud father of a young girl, Hinaya. Yuvraj Singh also batted for the cause and stressed on the importance of gender equality.

“Don’t cut their wings, let them fly. They’re more than capable of achieving everything,” said Harbhajan Singh. “Gender equality requires engagement and involvement from all,” Yuvraj Singh spoke for the cause.

Legendary former Indian cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar, was not far behind either. He is a proud father of 20-year old daughter Sara Tendulkar. He shared a video on his official social media handle on the occasion. “Daughters are special! Appreciate them, admire them and respect them. Let them chase their dreams,” Sachin Tendulkar tweeted.
