A clash between India and Pakistan is relished by billions of people. It is considered among the list of fiercest rivalries of cricket, if not the fiercest of all. Another edition of the mouth-watering encounter is on the cards. On 4th June, the two arch-rivals will take on each other at Edgbaston, Birmingham in a Champions Trophy 2017 clash.
But the Indian fans are not ready to play cricket with Pakistan. The Internation relation between the two countries is not sound. Moreover, Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has taken a stern step to boycott the friendly T20 series against Pakistan. A few days ago, the ACB chairman Atif Mashal and his Pakistani counterpart Shaharyar Khan agreed to have a friendly T20 series between the two countries.
The first one was scheduled to be held in Kabul, while Lahore was chosen as the venue for the second one. But one Wednesday, a suicide bombing took place in Kabul. A suicide bomber detonated a bomb hidden inside a tanker truck close to the German embassy. According to reports, at least 90 people were killed and more than 400 injured.
After the incident, ACB decided to cancel the series. They even went to the extent of calling Pakistan a country where terrorists are housed and provided safe haven. After their decision, the Indian cricket fans wants the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to boycott the Champions Trophy clash against Pakistan. They feel that the government must take some stern action so as to protect and safeguard the country.
Twitter was selected as the platform of protest and the hashtag #BoycottPakMatch was the slogan.
What will the consequences if India decides to boycott the match?
If India decides to walk out from the match, they might face some stern consequences. Some of them are listed here-
- Lose points against Pakistan
- Legal action can be taken against them by the hosts broadcaster
- Alienated by ICC and other permanent members
- Penalised by ICC for not honouring FTP
