IPL 2018 Auctions: LPG delivery man's son makes it to the Kolkata Knight Riders squad

The story of young Rinku Singh is here to inspire many. At the age of 20, when most people try to look out for stable jobs, young Rinku chose to follow his dreams. The family background and the circumstances did not bog him down even a bit during his meteoric rise in the Uttar Pradesh cricket circle. And now, the merry times seem to have arrived for Rinku and his family.

At the IPL 2018 auctions, the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Mumbai Indians had a bidding war to fetch the services of Rinku Singh. It was the Knight Riders team that eventually managed to buy Rinku for INR 80 Lakh. This is four times the amount of his base price, INR 20 Lakh. Interestingly, this is not the first time that Rinku has been bought at the IPL auctions.

He was with the Kings XI Punjab last year after KXIP had bought him for his base price, INR 10 Lakh. Coming to his story, Rinku’s father is an LPG delivery man in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. He has 8 members in his family that stays in a tin shed house in the compound of an LPG company. His father, Khanchandra Singh, has been delivering LPG for a long time now. Meanwhile, one of his five brothers is an auto-rickshaw driver.

Another sibling of Rinku Singh works at a coaching center. As per the reports in TOI, Rinku Singh started playing in the year 2009. He soon made it to the state U16 and U19 teams. A knock of 154 in Agra saw him grab a lot of attention. In the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2014, he smashed 206 and 154 in two matches. Soon, he made his debut for Uttar Pradesh in Ranji Trophy in 2016 and later played for Delhi.

Proud parents

His father is extremely happy with the achievements of his son and noted that he backed Rinku to play cricket. Meanwhile, his coach, Masood-uz-Zafar Amini noted that it is a proud moment for them that their lad has made it big in Indian cricket.

“I also stopped asking him to study and encouraged him to play cricket as his interest lay there,” Rinku’s father quoted.

“Rinku is talented and we all knew this fact but now the entire nation knows it. It’s a proud moment for all of us and I’m sure one day he will play for the national cricket team,” Amini quoted.
