It may be the first time in history where two biggest events of the game are being scheduled within close timelines. With the ICC World Cup 2019 to follow soon after the Indian Premier League, resting the key players ahead of it has resurfaced again. Jasprit Bumrah, who is in the form of his life has been tipped by analysts to be rested ahead of the T20 extravaganza, however, Sourav Ganguly isn’t agreeing with them on those.

The lanky and fast bowler was rested for the 50-over games ahead against the Windies. Presently, the reports also suggest that the BCCI is also asking the Mumbai-based franchise to give Bumrah ample rest so that he could be fully fit walking into the ten-team tournament in England & Wales. The Prince of Kolkata conceded that the call to pick Jasprit Bumrah for the series against the Black Caps was the correct one.

Ganguly was also confident that Mumbai Indians won’t compromise on their campaign by resting Bumrah. “We should definitely play him against New Zealand at least they are a strong side unlike the current hosts Australia. And I’m sure that the Mumbai Indians won’t be willing to rest him at the marquee tournament,” Ganguly said as quoted by India TV.

Bumrah is not a veteran like Kapil Dev

The 46-year old was unhappy to read reports about him likely to be rested during the course of the glittering tournament. The 113-Test veteran said that the 25-year old is not an experienced campaigner like Kapil Dev and that he is young, fit, and good to go.

“There is no doubt that he is an exceptional talent. But I saw news of him being rested keeping in mind the World Cup. I don’t think that should be followed in entirety. He is not a Kapil Dev who has played 125 Test matches. He is young and raring to go.”

The Indian team are currently playing against Australia in a four-match Test series. The Test series will be followed by three ODIs after which the Men in Blue will travel to New Zealand to play five ODIs and three T20 Internationals.
