The talented 22-year-old was roped in as a replacement by Mumbai Indians for the injured Kiwi pacer Adam Milne. The Antiguan pacer who made his IPL debut against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Rajiv Gandhi stadium grabbed the headlines in his very first game by producing a record-breaking performance.

With his fiery spell, Alzarri Joseph finished with the figures of 6/12 thereby breaking Sohail Tanvir’s eleven-year-old record of best figures in IPL history (6/14). Unfortunately, he played just three games for the Rohit Sharma-led side before being ruled out due to the shoulder injury he suffered during a league game against Rajasthan Royals.

With veteran Lasith Malinga already 36, Mitchell McClenaghan not at his usual best (three wickets in five matches in 2019 IPL) and Jason Behrendorff not living up to the expectations last season (five wickets in five matches at an economy of 8.68) Mumbai must retain Alzarri Joseph who could spearhead their pace attack in a few years’ time.
