Tom Banton
Tom Banton is on everyone’s lips and mind at the moment. The wonder boy from Somerset will unquestionably set the auction room ablaze. He was the second-highest run-scorer in the T20 Blast 2019, just behind teammate Babar Azam. Banton scored 549 runs in 13 innings, striking at 161 and averaging 42. His dazzling 52-ball-hundred against Kent brought him into the limelight.
Mentored by former English opener, Marcus Trescothick, Banton was Somerset’s second-highest run-scorer in the domestic One-day Cup campaign. He piled up 454 runs in 11 innings at an average of 41. The 20-year-old grabbed England’s Young Player of the Year award. Soon he received a national call up for the T20Is against New Zealand. He couldn’t score much, but it was his shot-making and charismatic outlook which mesmerized everyone.
In the recently concluded T10 League, Banton scored 162 runs in 5 innings at a strike rate of 200 with couple of half-centuries. His finesse and style carry shades of Kevin Pietersen. The wicket-keeper opener has signed for Brisbane Heat for The Big Bash League and it is expected that IPL franchises will break their banks for Tom Banton.
