Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the three-time champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to release five players for the upcoming edition. The team, led by MS Dhoni, has quite a few names, who are in their late 30s, their skipper himself being one of them. The trading window for the IPL 2020 will close on Thursday, November 14 and teams have already started their planning.

The IPL Governing Council previously set a deadline OF November 14 for the franchises to submit their list of retained and released players. The auction of the forthcoming season is scheduled to take place on December 19 in Kolkata. The Super Kings took to Twitter to announce their players release in a rather cheeky way. Their official Twitter handle wrote “Relea5ing tomorrow!”

Here is CSK’s tweet

The Super Kings are being referred to as Dad’s Army, due to the average age of the team. Not many gave them much of a chance in 2018 after the team came back following a two-year suspension. But Dhoni’s men soared above the expectations and went on to win the championship for the third time.

They beat the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the final at the Wankhede Stadium. Even in 2019, CSK made their way through to the final against Mumbai Indians (MI) in Hyderabad. Unfortunately, they couldn’t win their fourth title, losing by a mere one run despite Shane Watson’s gutsy half-century.

Transfers in full flow

Coming to the trade window, the franchises have traded quite a few players thus far. Ravi Ashwin, who was the skipper of Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the previous two IPL seasons, will now be turning out for Delhi Capitals (DC). He was traded for INR 1.5 crore along with spinner Jagadeesha Suchith. Trent Boult of the Capitals will represent the Mumbai team in the next edition of the cash-rich league.

Ankit Rajpoot has gone from KXIP to the Rajasthan Royals (RR), who are yet to win the title after the inaugural season. Among others, Mumbai have traded spinner Mayank Markande to the Capitals, who on the other hand, have traded Sherfane Rutherford to Mumbai.

Now the Capitals have traded Markande to the Royals. Krishnappa Gowtham of Karnataka has been traded from the Royals to the Capitals. Rahul Tewatia will play for the Royals after his stint with Delhi.
