The left-handed batter, Venkatesh Iyer has been a proven performer in domestic cricket for the Madhya Pradesh state team. After being snapped by Kolkata Knight Riders for IPL 2021, he displayed his abilities by scoring 198 against Punjab in Vijay Hazare Trophy. Although he could not get the opportunity in the first half, the southpaw was slotted as an opener in the subsequent half, which turned out to be career-defining for him.

In his first two IPL games, Iyer helped the team to chase down the total and brought the team momentum back after they had only two wins in seven league matches. He continued his fine form, which helped the team to have enough confidence and reach the finals. In this pursuit, he smashed 370 runs in 10 innings at 41.11.

Rightfully, he was retained for IPL 2022 as well. But, apart from a knock of 50* in the first half, he failed to contribute in a hefty manner and was dropped from the team. Although, he returned to playing XI, but has been average with his performances.
