The defending champions Chennai Super Kings squared off against Gujarat Titans in the 29th match of IPL 2022 at the MCA Stadium in Pune. Skipper Hardik Pandya was rested for the game owing to the injury he sustained in the previous game and Rashid Khan was the stand-in captain.

Jadeja’s misfortune at the toss continued as Rashid Khan won the toss and elected to chase. CSK did not have a good powerplay as they got off to a slow start, losing two early wickets. It was Ruturaj Gaikwad today, who had the home ground advantage, and he used it to his best capacity. Gaikwad and Ambati Rayudu shared a 92-run stand for the third wicket.

Rayudu was promoted up the order, above Shivam Dube, to handle the spin of Rashid Khan. Rayudu walked off scoring 46(31) as he was dismissed by Alzarri Joseph. Not much was possible from Dube this time as the CSK middle order struggled to add runs to the board towards the end. Jadeja smashed Lockie Ferguson for two sixes in the last over as CSK managed to take their score to 169/5.

David Miller’s unbeaten 94 (51) keeps GT on top

While chasing 170, Gujarat had their worst start to an IPL game so far, as Maheesh Theekshana and Mukesh Choudhary sent Shubman Gill, Abhinav Manohar, and Vijay Shankar packing. It did not take them long to dismiss Wriddhiman Saha as the batter kept struggling to get some runs before being picked by Jadeja.

GT felt the absence of their skipper Hardik Pandya, but David Miller stepped into the game and hit some important boundaries to put the defending champions in trouble. Miller kept finding the gaps at regular intervals to keep sending the ball over the fence. Just when he was searching for the right partner to build a partnership, Rashid Khan walked in. The two put up a 50-run stand in just 29 deliveries to cover up the chase.

The game turned when Rashid went bonkers in the 18th over as he hit Chris Jordan for three sixes and a four as the CSK bowler conceded 25 runs off it. Bravo put a stop to his game, dismissing him in the penultimate over, but CSK could not stop Miller as he finished the game for GT and the Yellow Army was handed its fifth defeat of the season.
