Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) managed to break their losing streak after winning their group stage encounter against the five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) played at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on May 17 (Tuesday). It was a close contest, but the Orange Army went on to win the match by a mere margin of three runs.
MI skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to have a bowl first. In reply, SRH batters Abhishek Sharma and Priyam Garg came all guns blazing. However, Sharma departed soon. Garg was then joined by the talented Rahul Tripathi as both the batters took on the MI bowlers.
Garg got out just before the Orange Army was about to cross the 100-run mark. The wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran along with Tripathi bashed the MI bowlers all around the park. The Men in Blue and Gold did manage to make a comeback in the latter part of the innings as SRH finished on 193/6 in their allotted 20 overs. For MI, Daniel Sams, Ramandeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, and Riley Meredith were the successful bowlers.
Rohit and Kishan gave an excellent start to MI
Chasing 194 to win, MI openers Ishan Kishan and skipper Rohit Sharma gave a perfect start to the five-time champions as they managed to score 95 runs without losing a wicket. However, the Orange Army pulled back things nicely as they got wickets at regular intervals.
Tim David tried his level best to win the contest for Mumbai, however, it was too much of an ask from the batter as MI went on to lose the contest by three runs. Express pacer Umran Malik was impressive yet again as he scalped three crucial wickets.
