India and Pakistan are considered to be fierce competitors on the cricket pitch and the fans are always eager to see two nations locking horns against each other in a cricket match. However, owing to the political tension between the two neighboring countries, they have refrained from playing bilateral series against each other for quite some time.
India and Pakistan had last featured in a bilateral series in 2012-13 when Pakistan visited India for a short limited-overs series. India, on the other hand, last visited Pakistan in 2008 for the Asia Cup. Since the suspension of the bilateral series, the two teams play together only during the Asia Cup or ICC tournaments.
The Men in Blue and the Men in Green had last featured against each other in a league match of ICC World Cup 2019 where India had continued their unbeaten run.
Just like many other cricket enthusiasts, former England captain Kevin Pietersen also hopes of seeing the two Asian nations including the likes of India and Pakistan getting united on the cricket pitch. He believes that it will be a dream come true for any cricket lover to see the two cricketing superpowers play cricket against each other regularly.
Kevin Pietersen delighted after Modi tweeted for Imran Khan
A few days back, former captain of the Pakistan cricket team and current Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan had tested positive for the novel coronavirus. On a humanitarian basis, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to his official Twitter handle to give his best wishes to the neighboring leader and prayed for his speedy recovery.
“Best wishes to Prime Minister @ImranKhanPTI for a speedy recovery from COVID-19,” PM Modi tweeted. The tweet by India’s PM caught the attention of England’s veteran cricketer Kevin Pietersen as he reckoned that the tweet by Narendra Modi made him smile and also ignited hope of seeing a healthy relationship between India and Pakistan on and off the field.
“This tweet by @narendramodi to @ImranKhanPTI made me smile! It would be a dream come true, to see India & Pak reunited and engaging both on & off the field! We all need each other & this year has shown us that! Let’s all hope a healthy friendship is on its way,” Pietersen tweeted.
