Clinching their first victory of IPL 2020, Kings XI Punjab thrashed Royal Challengers Bangalore by 97 runs at Dubai International Stadium on Thursday. KXIP skipper KL Rahul stole the limelight by smashing one of the best knocks in the history of IPL.
Living up to fans’ expectations, the skipper effortlessly slammed 132 off 69 balls and steered his side to a dominant 206-run total. Rahul looked in spectacular touch, especially in the death where he whacked RCB’s Dale Steyn for 26 runs in one over.
In response, Virat Kohli’s men fizzled out on just 109 runs and it ultimately turned out to be a lopsided encounter. KXIP bowling unit didn’t provide RCB with any opportunity to stitch a steady partnership in the middle. Seven RCB players didn’t even tick double-digit score before their team was wrapped up for a meagre 109-run total in just 17 overs.
James Neesham failed to leave an impact against RCB
KXIP’s bowling unit was at their best as almost everyone added a wicket to their name. While Ravi Bishnoi and Murugan Ashwin scalped three wickets each, Sheldon Cottrell registered two wickets to his name. Mohammed Shami and Glenn Maxwell also joined the party and added a wicket each under their belt. Amid the wicket-taking spree, one bowler who failed to scalp any wicket was Kiwi all-rounder James Neesham.
Neesham, in his two overs, failed to pluck a wicket while conceding 13 runs. He was economical on the day but failed to snatch any dismissal. The New Zealand international failed to contribute with his willow too as he didn’t get an opportunity to bat. While amassing 206 runs on the board, KXIP lost just three wickets.
After not making an impact against RCB, Neesham was targetted by a fan on Twitter. “I took you as my Dream11 vice-captain, You didn’t bat or didn’t take any wicket, Lost all money on you,” complained the fan to Neesham. But the all-rounder had a hilarious reply under his sleeve as he posted a popular Gif from American sitcom Friends which read, ” Oh! I don’t care”
