The inventors of the game England preferred to focus on the longest format of the game. They didn’t deem it was important to have largely different teams for limited-overs and Test cricket. The English team was knocked out of the first round of World Cup 2015 and had to bite the bullet. However, they made amends and three years down the line results are for all to see. Based on the team’s current form, former England cricketer James Taylor likes to believe that the team will do well in the World Cup at home next year.

The 28-year-old who had to retire prematurely due to a heart condition in 2016 was a part of the team in 2015 and has seen the transformation happen in front of his eyes. They are now ranked No.1 in the format and very recently whitewashed Australia 5-0 in the ODI series at home. He admitted that they were pretty poor in the previous edition of the mega event while this time around they have unbelievable chances of winning it.

We were poor in 2015

“Unfortunately we were pretty poor in 2015, but in 2019 we’ve got an unbelievable opportunity to win this tournament.

“We’re the No. 1 ranked side in the world and we’ve learnt so much from all the disappointments of 2015, and I think that’s why England cricket is the force it is at the minute,” Taylor was quoted as saying on the International Cricket Council (ICC) website.

Great opportunity to promote cricket

He also thinks it is a great chance for the country hosting the World Cup to spread more awareness about the sport among young kids and to inspire them.

“It’s an opportunity to spread the word of cricket and everything it teaches young kids. Hopefully it will galvanise millions of youngsters to get involved. Obviously it’s a global tournament, they’re going to be watching it on TV and there’s so many platforms to watch this great game on,” Taylor added.

The former right-handed batter is hoping the home team can end the tournament with the trophy in their hands.

“Hopefully you’ll see the England boys at the end of the 2019 World Cup lifting the trophy,” he stated.
