Peshawar Zalmi owner Javed Afridi is also the owner of the Benoni Zalmi team in the upcoming Global T20 League. The iconic actor also owns the Kolkata Knight Riders in the ever-so-popular Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
The main story:
With the opening match of the Global T20 League set to be between the Cape Town knight Riders and the Benoni Zalmi, Javed Afridi seems keen on taking the ‘Baadshah of Bollywood’. Afridi had previously wished for a three match showdown between the Peshawar Zalmi and the Kolkata Knight Riders which eventually was not brought into reality.
Speaking about the issue to Hindustan Times, Javed Afridi stated “Shah Rukh has roots in Peshawar. People are looking forward to see his team take on Benoni Zalmi. After the success of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), there is a buzz regarding the Global T20 League,”.
Afridi went on to express his disappointment over the lack of cricket between India and Pakistan. He mentioned that the fans deserve to see the players of the two nations going head to head against each other but they have to settle for the owner vs owner matches.
“Unfortunately, India and Pakistan cricketers won’t be playing against each other in the Global League and it would be left to Pakistan owners versus Indian owners,” he added.
Fawad Rana, who is the owner of the Lahore Qalandars in the PSL and the Durban Qalandars in the Global T20 League, expressed his desire to buy Indian skipper Virat Kohli earlier. According to the owner, the franchise is ready to spend big on Kohli if BCCI allows its players to play in other leagues.
