To play six World Cups is no small thing and to last in the national side for so long is something only a few players can dream of. In the history of the gentleman’s game, only two of them have managed to achieve that feat and those two are the finest batsman in their respective countries, Javed Miandad and Sachin Tendulkar.

Miandad certainly is one of the greatest cricketers of all time from Pakistan and was an integral part of the 1992 World Cup winning side. That side consisted of some legendary names like Wasim Akram, Inzamam-ul-Haq and Imran Khan and they set unattainable standards for the coming generations.

But unfortunately for the Pakistani cricket lovers, their current team is nowhere close to being on the same level of that immortal 1992 squad. Being one of the ardent supporters of his national side, Miandad was clearly upset with a lot of things that are happening in the team right now and is also unhappy with the domestic system in the country.

Pakistan should play ODIs more often

The 61-year-old was clearly upset with the fact that their side is only dominating lower-rank teams and their performance against India was nothing short of a catastrophe. He also said that if the players are dropping such sitters (pointing at the catches dropped off Rohit Sharma), those players don’t deserve to be in the team.

“We can only dominate low-ranked teams but are helpless in front of tougher ones. If our players are dropping such easy catches then I am sorry to say they do not deserve to be in the team,” he was quoted as saying by Business Recorder.

He also suggested that the number of ODI games that the Men in Green play should go up and they should play more often against the strong sides. He also reckons that there’s a lot of talent in the domestic circuit, but it is not being utilized to a proper effect.

“ODI cricket tournaments should be increased and all national team players must be bound to participate in the six months long season. We have a lot of talented former cricketers all over Pakistan and we must utilize their services to develop cricket,” he said.
