The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) just today announced that two Pakistan cricketers were provisionally suspended from the Pakistan Super League (PSL) its domestic Twenty20 tournament as per the Anti-Corruption Code. After the new broke out former Pakistan captain Javed Miandad has criticized the PCB for the way they are handling such situations.

Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif are the two players suspended and both represent the Islamabad United team against Peshawar Zalmi. They were playing the opening match of the season and Miandad was clearly shocked at the kind of shot Sharjeel played to get out after scoring just one run. He attempted to whip a ball from Hasan Ali across the line but missed it and was hit in front on the pads.

“No in-form player plays a shot which Sharjeel Khan played. If we will continue to let tainted players play the game, such things are going to happen,” Miandad was quoted by Samaa.tv. Another former Pakistan skipper Aamir Sohail doubled Miandad’s concern and feels a thorough investigation will lead them to what the matter is. “Something is definitely fishy here.” He said answering a question.

Earlier Najam Sethi, Chairman of the PSL in a statement didn’t get into details but said that the investigation is on and that they are determined to prevent any attempts of corrupting the league.

“It would not be appropriate to comment on the specifics of the case, however this investigation is a clear demonstration of our determination to drive corruption out of our sport. We will not tolerate any form of corrupt activity and as this investigation proceeds we will not hesitate to take further decisive action as appropriate.

PCB ACU as well as the ICC ACU are working in collaboration on the case. “The investigation of the PCB Anti-Corruption Unit backed by the ICC ACU has been effective in dealing with this case to date and we will continue to work in the closest collaboration as the investigation proceeds. We are all absolutely committed to relentlessly pursuing anyone who would seek to damage the integrity of our sport.” Sethi added.
