After Parthiv Patel and Gautam Gambhir made their short-lived comebacks to the national team during India’s long home season, another discarded man of Indian cricket wants to don the Indian jersey once again. Jaydev Unadkat, the bowler who made his Test debut six years back, insists that he is in a good form and also mentally strong to make a return to the Indian team.

A player of the Pune franchise in the tenth edition of the Indian Premier League, Unadkat made his maiden national appearance in 2010 against South Africa. The debut though was a poor one in which he could manage to seize only a solitary scalp.

Speaking to ANI, the 25-year old India international said that he tries to take out positives from each net session he attends, and learn something new.

“I have always looked to learn something new from every net session that I go through or every match that I play. It has been six years since I made my Test debut. So it would be great now that I make a comeback to the Test team and that is what I aspire for.”

However, he is aware of the fact that to make it to team India is very competitive, when there is already competition within the team itself.

“But at the same time, I need to work hard, there’s a lot of competition in the team at the moment, which is for the good of the team.”

To make a national comeback, more than anything it is the fitness of the cricketer which is examined. And the youngster said that improving his fitness is his target right now.

“For me, right now the goal is to improve. I have set some short terms goals for myself like how to improve fitness,” he concluded.
