Jimmy Neesham – the cricketer and the person on Twitter seem to be completely different entities. He was in the thick of the things during the super over of the World Cup final between England and New Zealand and received an emotional support from most of the Indian fans on the social media post the heartbreaking loss. Fast forward to three weeks, Neesham is back to his humourous best and is facing the wrath of the Indian fans. To make it more hilarious, the Kiwi cricketer is enjoying it to the hilt.

The Ashes fever is on with the first Test being concluded recently. Australia defeated England in the series opener at Edgbaston by a whopping 251 runs and Steve Smith was the undisputed king with the bat in the game with twin centuries. Rory Burns also scored a fighting ton in the first innings which was also his maiden outing for England. The opener looks set to fill Alastair Cook’s void at the top of the order and many praised him for his stupendous knock.

Now Jimmy Neesham also played his part after Burns scored a century. Interestingly, he didn’t praise the cricketer directly and quipped that Rory Burns has scored more runs than Virat Kohli has in his entire Ashes career. “Rory Burns now has more runs in his first Ashes innings than Virat Kohli has in his entire Ashes career,” Neesham’s tweet read.

Indian fan slams Neesham

Now the fact that Virat Kohli is an Indian and the Ashes is played only between Australia and England clears that Jimmy Neesham was only having fun here and had nothing to do with comparing the two players. But the Indian cricket fans got offended and some of them literally lambasted Neesham for the same. One of the fans wasn’t clearly impressed with the New Zealander over his joke and lashed out at him.

He cleared that the Indian fans will never take it as a joke and also called Virat Kohli as Jimmy Neesham’s father in cricket. After reading the tweet though Neesham was left in splits and wondered how people don’t understand the joke or a humour. However, the fan later deleted the tweet.
