The Indian team hasn’t had the best of outings on English soil of late. They are currently playing England in a five-match Test series and are currently trailing by 2-0. After giving the Brits a run for their money in the first Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham, Virat Kohli and Co capitulated like a house of cards at Lord’s. The third Test is scheduled to be played from August 18 at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.

The bowling has more or less been reasonable, but they have been caught napping at times. Prior to the series, they suffered a couple of body blows owing to Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s respective injuries. While Bumrah is almost certain to play the next match, the other speedster is pretty likely to miss the entire series.

India came so close to a victory in South Africa

In the meantime, Jonty Rhodes, the former South African cricketer, mentioned that the Indian team has badly missed the fast-bowling duo. He put forth the pacers’ performance in the Rainbow Nation earlier this year as a reference to their prowess with the leather.

“India came so close to a victory in South Africa but they have been missing two key bowlers who did well in that series – Bhuvneshwar and Bumrah (due to injuries) in England,” Rhodes was quoted as saying in www.india.com.

In the three-match series, Bumrah picked up 14 wickets with one five-wicket-haul. On the other hand, Bhuvneshwar played only a couple of matches in which he nipped out ten wickets. Rhodes also spoke about the fielding-technique which needs to be employed on pitches of various nature.

“In India, the catches come at or below knee level and the fingers have to be pointed towards the ground while taking them. In England, Australia and South Africa it’s the reverse (fingers should be pointing up as the ball comes well above the knee). You can’t change old habits in six weeks,” he added.
