Jos Buttler has played 18 Test matches for England, the last of which came against India way back in December 2016. The wicket-keeper batsman was selected in England’s squad for their home series against Pakistan. The 27-year old recently played for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the eleventh edition of the prestigious Indian Premier League (IPL).

He started playing in the middle order and couldn’t make much of an impact. However, following his promotion to open the batting, his fortunes turned and he came on to his own. He scored five half-centuries on the trot to equal Virender Sehwag’s record of most consecutive fifties in the history of the event. The knocks also helped the Royals arrest their slump and qualify for the playoffs.

Buttler’s positive approach

The cricketer believes that the same approach can help him cement his position in the Test team. “They’ve told me to play in the way people watch me play in white-ball games. I’m not just going to go out there trying to slog, but I’m going to try to be positive and score runs.” Buttler was quoted as saying to Hindustan Times.

“That’s what the game is about, whatever fashion you do that in. There have been some great cricketers from all generations who’ve done it their own way. That’s what’s been asked of me really, to play in a way that suits me,” the swashbuckling figure added.

The first Test between England and Pakistan will be played at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Stadium from May 24. The teams will thereafter lock horns in the second Test at Headingley in Leeds. They played their last series back in 2016 where both teams managed a couple of victories to draw the series by 2-2. Moreover, the series is also likely to decide Buttler’s fate in white-clothing cricket for England.
