South African left handed middle order batsman JP Duminy was very impressed with South Africa’s performance in the recent past. The southpaw stated that he was proud of what the team has achieved in 2016 but stressed on the fact that there best was yet to come. “There were many ups and downs…much to reflect on and to be thankful for. I’m proud of what we have achieved this year as a team. And I believe the best is yet to come,” he said.
The Proteas have been in a scintillating form off late, especially in the last 3 months where they first whitewashed the Aussies 5-0 in an ODI series at home and then came back in their opposition’s territory to pocket the 3 match Test series 2-1.
Besides that they have won a Test series against New Zealand earlier this year and also returned triumphantly in a 5 match ODI series in England. Speaking in an interview Duminy discussed on the highs and lows that South Africa went through during the course of the year.
“I would definitely have to say this was our 5-0 one-day international (ODI) whitewash against Australia. We go into every series with the ambition to win, and, generally, when you achieve that early in a series, you tend to back off,” the left-hander was quoted by Sport24 when asked about the highlight of 2016.
“But the hunger and the determination within the team to ‘strive for more’ were remarkable and were a great inspiration to me, personally.” The veteran batsman pointed out that missing out on the New Year Test earlier this year was one of the lowest points in his career.
“A New Year’s Test is certainly one of our iconic events on the Test calendar and something one always wants to be part of,” he said.
“Being given the No. 4 spot in the Test team against New Zealand. One always feels that batting at No. 4 has quite a bit of responsibility and significance and it’s an honour to be given that responsibility,” Duminy said when asked about the significant moment of 2016.
