Justice Mukul Mudgal has endorsed former BCCI president Shashank Manohar for the role of the chairman of the ICC. Justice Mudgal has also added that Manohar served his post with honesty and strength of character. Manohar took over the post of the president of the BCCI following the untimely death of Jagmohan Dalmiya.

Justice Mudgal, who was in charge of overseeing the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) matches during the World T20 added that Manohar had always been honest and straightforward as a person. Speaking to the Times of India, Justice Mudgal was quoted saying: “Manohar has always been a straightforward and honest person. I don’t know the exact reasons for his decision to step down but he would have weighed up the pros and cons.”

Mudgal also added that it was a personal call taken by Manohar to quit and make himself available for the post of the chairman of the ICC. He also added that the former president of the BCCI didn’t necessarily agree with some of the suggestions and recommendations in the Lodha committee report. He also added that it would be an improbable proposition to find a replacement for someone as ideal as Shashank Manohar.

“I think it is a personal decision made by Manohar. Although I have not thoroughly studied the Lodha recommendation, I don’t think Manohar was in conflict with any of the suggestions made by the panel. I am not privy to his decision but he might be looking at a more permanent post of ICC chairman,” he said, adding: “I can’t think of a better person to represent India at the ICC. It is a great honour and he’s the ideal man for the job.”

Manohar has shown his displeasure about some of the suggestions made by the Lodha panel, and Mudgal said, “I think it shows his character. He might disagree with the recommendations but he is prepared to abide by the court’s suggestions.”
