The Indian team won the 3rd T20I vs Australia at the SCG to level the three-match T20I series. While most batsmen came to the party in either of the matches, KL Rahul failed miserably to convert the start. He has had the Indian team management’s vote of trust for a while now with little returns. It hasn’t translated into performance and that has irked the fans.

Though he hasn’t regularly found a place in the Indian ODI team, Rahul has played most T20Is for the national team. In the last two series, three against Windies at home and the most recent three against Australia he hasn’t got past 30 runs even once. He has scores of 16, 26*, 17, 13 and 14 in the last five outings.

Today it was one of his best chances to make it count. The openers had given Team India a really good start. They had over 60 runs from the chase chopped off even inside the powerplay. When he walked out, it was Virat Kohli at the other end and had already got going and Rahul just had to hold on to capitalize.

In his short stay, the batter was trying really hard to dominate the spinners Adam Zampa and Glenn Maxwell. Even jumped down the ground unsuccessfully on a couple of occasions. Having already hit a six, Rahul batting on 14 off 20 balls attempted to play another big shot against Nathan Coulter-Nile and this time was caught at long-off.

Here is how angry Indian fans reacted to KL Rahul’s string of failures:

In a country with such abundant batting talent, the team management has been really patient with Lokesh Rahul. It was his form in the previous season of the IPL which created all the buzz. He was soon a part of the Indian XI in all the three formats. The Karnataka batsman has done well but only in parts. His spot as the Test opener has also been hanging by the thread; he managed to save it for the Windies series with a timely century in the last Test in England, where his best was 33* in the last innings of the series.
