Every cricketer dreams to get his/her name on the Lord’s honours board. It is a huge honour for the players only to represent their country at the Mecca of Cricket leave alone scoring a hundred or picking a five-wicket haul. Not all top cricketers managed to reap success at the venue but a lot of others were able to shine for their team at the historic stadium.

Citing the same, the Twitter handle of Lord’s has come up with a special home and visitors’ honours board XIs. Starting with the XI comprising of the overseas players, Graeme Smith and Sir Gordon Greenidge have been selected to open the innings with the former also leading the team of the legends. Sir Don Bradman, Sir Viv Richards and Sir Garry Sobers who dominated the bowling attack throughout their careers form the middle-order.

Former Australia cricketer Allan Border had also managed to score a century at Lord’s during his illustrious career and has been picked to bat at six in this XI. Interestingly, Kumar Sangakkara will be the wicket-keeper of this side and will bat a bit too low at seven. Sir Richard Hadlee, Malcolm Marshall and Glenn McGrath form the deadly pace attack while the left-arm spinner Bishan Singh Bedi is the only Indian in the line-up.

Graham Gooch to lead home honours board XI

Lord’s official Twitter handle, in their home honours board XI, picked Graham Gooch to lead the side and also open the innings alongside the legendary Sir Alastair Cook. Current England Test skipper Joe Root was chosen to bat at three with the likes of Denis Compton and Kevin Pietersen to follow. Pietersen had a brilliant record at the venue as he scored 5 centuries amassing 1235 runs in 15 Tests at an average of 56.13.

The all-rounders of this line-up are legendary Sir Ian Botham and Ben Stokes who is on his way to becoming the greatest all-rounder ever to grace the game. Alec Stewart is the wicket-keeper of the team while Derek Underwood, Fred Trueman and modern-day legend James Anderson formed a potent bowling attack.
