The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have been impressive with their performances and have three wins out of four appearances in the Indian Premier League 2022. They are currently facing the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Match 20. The former Ireland cricketer Niall O’Brien discussed the form of LSG in their debut campaign and pointed out a few players who can do well for them this season.

Niall reckoned that it was not easy to build the team from scratch in their first season and LSG have done quite well to get three wins under their belt, and possess a balanced team which can challenge any opposition in the tournament.

“It’s never easy to start off an auction when you start afresh and you go from 3 players to making a full squad, and Lucknow has done really well. One of the retentions, Marcus Stoinis has been a fantastic signing for Lucknow. He gives you power with the bat and also gives you a few overs with the ball,” said Niall O Brien on Sky247.net presents ‘Not Just Cricket Show’ on CricTracker.

Niall pointed out that Mark Wood’s replacement Andrew Tye has not quite made an impact in the initial matches, and is devoid of enough wickets. “Mark Wood was a massive loss, and Andy Flower would have been building around the bowling attack around him. Andrew Tye has not quite been able to fill his boots in a perfect manner,” Niall added.

Chameera is a real threat with the new ball: Niall O Brien

The former Irish cricketer spoke about the LSG fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera’s form and his performances in this format. He praised Chameera for his ability to keep it tight in the powerplay overs with his impressive line and lengths, and pace. In addition, Niall recalled the interview of former Aussie fast bowler Brett Lee, where he had said the difference between your slower balls and faster ones should not be more than 10-15%. After this revelation, he urged Chameera to work on his slower balls and keep the difference as low as possible.

“When he bowls fast, he is exceptional and is a real threat. He can be terrific, especially with a new ball, can bowl fast, and can take wickets, but has to work on his slower balls in the back end,” Niall added.
