Former English wicketkeeper-batsman, Matt Prior, was surprised to see his name on the scoreboard during the recent Ashes Warm-Up fixture. Team England took the field at Townsville on Wednesday for their third and final warm-up game before heading in to the mega event. The first Test of the Ashes will be played at the Gabba, Brisbane on November 23.

In the warm-up match, there seemed to be a nostalgic twist as the name of Matt Prior surprisingly showed up at the ground’s scoreboard instead of Jonny Bairstow. It is worth noting that Prior was a part of the England team that had stunned Australia in their own backyard when the team had toured in the 2010-2011 season. England had beaten Australia by 2-1 in that series to regain the Ashes.

Also, they are currently the holders of the Ashes. Prior was quite surprised to see his name and got a tad emotional too. He so wished that he could be with the boys on the park at the moment. He took to micro-blogging site Twitter to speak up about the incident.

“I knew I was meant to be doing something today! what I’d give to be out there with those boys now,” tweeted Matt Prior.

Injury scare to Bairstow

Meanwhile, the actual wicketkeeper-batsman of England on the tour this year, Jonny Bairstow, had a major injury scare on the field during the day. He had to walk out of the ground after having injured his finger. He injured his finger while trying to hold on to a delivery bowled by pace bowler Chris Woakes.

Much to the relief of the English side, there is nothing serious about the injury at the moment and Bairstow is expected to be fit for the first Test of the Ashes. The last time England toured Australia for the Ashes, they were beaten 5-0 by the Aussie side.
